Credentials

• Ms. Scott was honored by the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers as the 2005 Clarence Darrow Prodigy Award winner. The award is presented to a lawyer who has demonstrated precocious legal knowledge and trial skills as a criminal defense advocate, as well as an uncompromising committment to aggressively defending clients, in the spirit and best tradition of Mr. Darrow.

• Ms. Scott is a member of the board of directors of the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, as well as a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys.

• Won admission to the prestigious National Criminal Defense College, Macon, Ga., in the summer of 2003.

• Attended Litigation Persuasion Institute at Faubush, Ky., in the fall of 2002. There, she won the Horton Award for an unusually creative and daring performance.

• Served as public defender in Maysville, in 2001-2002. Won the Excellence in Advocacy Award from the Department of Public Advocacy, Juvenile Post-Disposition Branch, for her work in striking down the procedures used by the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice for labeling juvenile clients as sex offenders.

• Graduated in the top 10% of a class of 287 at Santa Clara University, School of Law, with a juris doctorate degree, 2000. Won the highest award in her class for writing and research. Competed in Honors Moot Court. Made dean’s list each semester.

• Worked her way through the University of Akron as a waitress and a nanny, earning a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders in 1995, graduating summa cum laude. Again, was on the dean’s list for all semesters.
